Did you know that torture in Purgatory, the chasm between Heaven and Hell, is more painful than in Hell itself? The gateway to Hell tells you to leave all hope. A man who has lost all hope can give up and accept his punishment. However, in Purgatory, people still retain hope. The hope to enter Heaven, the only hope they can never abandon. That’s why it’s so painful. There’s no torture device in Hell as terrible as the small needle called hope.
